“I have been teaching yoga since 2006 and practicing yoga since 1998. I trained in Singapore, where I have lived Over the past 14 years, but I’m originally from Cardiff! Sivananda was my first yoga course, and this was undertaken as part of a 200-hour yoga alliance that was incredibly rewarding and tough! I continued to take a 200hr Ashtanga 8 limbed course alongside Tirisula yoga, pre- and postnatal, Kundalini, kid’s yoga, yoga therapy, and meditation. I’ve also completed another 500-hour course with Tirisula yoga and eventually a master course of 1000 hours.
Even though I have taken these courses, I wanted to find out more about anatomy science based on yoga and the body. So, I took it upon myself to self educate by reading, exploring, and learning more and more about movement and how science connects us differently in yoga to what traditional yogis think. That’s not to say I’m taking anything away from tradition; I’m adding value.
My life hasn’t gone without injuries. Being a sportsperson all my life, I’ve had to manage my injuries. Yoga gets such a bad name and I think lack of knowledge for your own body and the pose you get into may cause you to feel pain so that’s what we need to educate ourselves on. Just because the person next to you is doing something that may be right for them, it’s important not to copy.”
